They have larvae! This is the queen that I boosted with wild pupae.

Still getting along, with lots of larvae and hundreds of eggs! They have the largest first batch I have ever seen!

Myrmica incompleta (Colony #1)
7-11-19

Some new workers have hatched bringing the total amount of workers up to 50. The queens just laid a new batch of about 20 eggs, making the brood pile grow by quite a bit. They now have 10 or so pupae, with some turning orange, ready to hatch, and several larvae. They love their sweets!

Still four queens, with lots of eggs and medium sized larvae! Workers should arrive within two to three weeks. :D

We have fourth instar larvae! They have turned opaque and are growing legs and antennae! Sooo close... :D

Finally an update on these guys! I

Freya is still productive as ever, with a new batch of around 100 eggs. They have WAAAAAY too many larvae. I'm estimating 200-250. They have just about out grown their fortress, with a little under 500 workers now. Most of their brood seems to be minors and small majors this time. I

This 7 queen colony now has a little noodle egg! Having 7 queens should solve the egg production problem.


Yea, it definitely does. They now have about 15 eggs.

This is the boosted queen. She has a ton of her own small to large larvae and a bunch of eggs. My favorite colony is still the four queen colony though. :)

My chromas have ten workers. They won’t move into the firebrick nest I made. Any tips to move them, or should I just dump them in the outworld?
My basement is 73 degrees, so I might try putting them down there with a heat cable on the nest. What do you think, Sensei?

Just dump them into the outworld. A heat cable will work best if it runs through a Styrofoam box, or a cabinet, where the nest is not directly touching the cable. It eliminates condensation and is safer for the ants.

So much brood! They had a few old workers die, but there are a few pupae ready to eclose. they have 50 or so small and large larvae, and a new batch of eggs numbering at about 60 eggs. Doing much better!

Hi there! I went on a 6 month or so hiatus, in part due, and in part cause of the death of my colonies. 

However, I went back to the Sierras, and restarted my collection, which is now as follows:

Aphaenogaster uinta, Camponotus vicinus, Camponotus modoc, Formica cf. aserva, Formica cf. micropthalma, Formica cf. manni, Formica subpolita, Formica cf. subaenescens, Lasius americanus, Manica invidia, Pogonomyrmex salinus, Pogonomyrmex sp. 1, Solenopsis validiuscula, & Solenopsis sp. 3 (new Sierra variant).
