From the very long list of plant pests.
So far only Pogonomyrmex occidentalis has been exempted.

you just banned most of the Camponotous in the US

Yep I know. Camponotus are indeed plant pests. But that just means you need a permit to transport them from state to state.

I would start with Trachymyrmex septentrionalis. First of all they aren't a plant pest, since they go for decaying matter and not live plants. They also are wide ranging but restricted in habitat, and because of their unassuming nature, they wouldn't even be a problem if they somehow got introduced somewhere.

That’s a nice heart butt.

 

Crematogaster minutissima have the best rear end of any ant species imo :yes:

Also, my goodness this is amazing that you're keeping this species. They are literally the only ant I miss from Tennessee.

She's actually Crematogaster missouriensis. Better. So she won't live a year, then die lol.

Found her yesterday running around an oak tree.

Found her yesterday at the same oak tree. Must have been a Lasius flight that I missed. Both are in hibernation.

Colonies in hibernation: Camponotus chromaiodes (Colony #2), Camponotus pennslyvanicus (Colony #1), Formica pallidefullva (Colony #1), Lasius neoniger (Colony #1), Lasius aphidicola (Colony #1), Lasius cf. claviger (Colony #1), Pheidole bicarinata (Colony #1).

I made a DIY macro lens, so I have some pics to post. My profile pic is of my Camponotus snellingi colony, took with my macro. :)

I got these three queens and while at a swim meet today! I had to freestyle over 50 yards with one hand... :lol:

Hah! That has got to be one of the best ant finding moments.  I come close at school keeping mine though the day in a ziplock bag which had my pretzels in them.   I have also found one at PE and had to put it in my sock so it could not get away.


First time reading this and read it most of the way. Saw this and I might have something that beat you both I ran one of my cross country races a 5k or 3.1 miles while keeping a camponotus semitestaceus queen alive in my hand that I found at the start of my race. And I had a personal record race that day while running with my newfound queen

Hi there! I went on a 6 month or so hiatus, in part due, and in part cause of the death of my colonies. 

However, I went back to the Sierras, and restarted my collection, which is now as follows:

Aphaenogaster uinta, Camponotus vicinus, Camponotus modoc, Formica cf. aserva, Formica cf. micropthalma, Formica cf. manni, Formica subpolita, Formica cf. subaenescens, Lasius americanus, Manica invidia, Pogonomyrmex salinus, Pogonomyrmex sp. 1, Solenopsis validiuscula, & Solenopsis sp. 3 (new Sierra variant).
