Any relatively undisturbed oak forest will have plenty of Prenolepis.

I'm a complete beginner, but when would the best time be to go out, since it hasn't rained for a week or two? And since stanford has oak trees, would there be Prenolepis there? or do you need a forest forest?

Also, would there be any queens in big basin at this time of year? (Going there for a camping trip this weekend)

A location at Stanford is where they discovered that Prenolepsis are actually pushing back Argentine ants, so I would imagine it's a good place.

I may be buying some queens from some of you soon. lol

Glad to see you are back! We could always use some more ant keepers up north :)

Any park in your area with oak trees and relatively undisturbed forest should have them.

I caught 4 prenolepis imparis queens (i think) which are a light brown or orange, pretty big, and 3 still have wings and one took its wings off already (maybe 1mm of the clear wing part still attached so not a clean removal. I hope they are all fertile, and I put them all in test tube setups.

I'm a complete newbie so take my answer with a grain of salt, but I found mine in the mountains prob low 70s, but I know there was some sort of flight yesterday because a male was in my classroom. Unfortunately, I couldn't get out to look until 5ish, and by then it was already almost dark. I'll hopefully be able to look next week. If anyone wants to go ant hunting and has a good spot, we should all go looking sometime.
