I'm getting balder than I like, but I have a red cap to cover that and a hirsute beard to compensate. I wish my beard would turn all white, though. Maybe then folks would respect me?

Kit’s actually seen me in the flesh when I sold him a Camponotus subbarbatus colony. But I’m actually not bald. You could say glabrous if you’re into Latin.

An English teacher alright! (although you’re learnin’ us some latin)
I am thoroughly glabrous. Could this be why we identify with ants?

Would anyone venture a guess as to why this Formica species is allowed? Are they fairly widespread across the continental US?

Considered to be widespread, however as is often the case it could well be that the species on one location/state is not really the same thing in another state which is one of  the problems with allowing interstate transport.

I can catch this species or a species that looks the exact same so I don't really need to buy from him.

Hi there! I went on a 6 month or so hiatus, in part due, and in part cause of the death of my colonies.

However, I went back to the Sierras, and restarted my collection, which is now as follows:

Aphaenogaster uinta, Camponotus vicinus, Camponotus modoc, Formica cf. aserva, Formica cf. micropthalma, Formica cf. manni, Formica subpolita, Formica cf. subaenescens, Lasius americanus, Manica invidia, Pogonomyrmex salinus, Pogonomyrmex sp. 1, Solenopsis validiuscula, & Solenopsis sp. 3 (new Sierra variant).
