You're making assumptions. There are lots of reasons why they won't move, which may have nothing to do with the smell. I've never reared this species, but if it's just two workers, wait til it gets at least ten workers before you move them in. Also, did you fill the water tower to the brim and using a nestmate?

Did you order a Type 3 specifically? The Mini Hearth has different options. Just because you ordered one doesn't mean it is a Type III.

Again, this thread isn't THA tech support, so if you have any questions regarding your order how or how to properly setup the nest and have the ants move in, please contact them.

Moved small Melophorus colony into my recently purchased Mini Hearth

They stayed wandered the outworld for quite a while.

Then the queen entered, explored and left the nest area twice.

And she didn't like it... she, a nanitic and a minor worker are still in the outworld hanging out behind a small fake plant.

I have made a red film cover for the front glass panel, so it should be "dark" to them.

The nest has a very strong chemical smell, even after a rinse and airing for a few days.

Much like when I first got my Type 2 Atom C nests.

I thought this nest was a Type 3 and didn't have these smells?

So she must notice the smell... or it's maybe too big for her liking inside.

I have seen others raise queens in a Mini Hearth from the get go, so I thought it would be Ok to to try with them.

Yes I have have filled everything up. Nest mate in the back port.

It's the latest batch of Mini Hearth from THA, stocked by a reseller. It's definitely not a type 1, and I assume THA no longer make type 2.

Current ant colonies -
1) Opisthopsis Rufithorax (strobe ant), Melophorus sp2. black and orange, Pheidole species, Pheidole antipodum

You bought this from a reseller? Link? And not direct from THA?

Where does it say it is Type III? How do you know it is "The latest batch of Mini Hearth from THA"? Did you ask them before purchasing?

Yeah, again, you need to contact your seller for tech support or customer service questions. We are not going to know if you have a Type I II or III. You're making assumptions and blaming it on the scent when we don't have all the facts. You could very well have a bad batch Type II if you say there is a strong odor.

Just to reiterate, I'm not affiliated with THA other than helping the owner test out his nests, nor am I getting any buyers discount or monetary gain. I do like his formicariums though, as do the ants.
