Aphidicola(and probably other lasius parasites) are looking for host colonies after hibernation right now, so if anyone wants to catch them then it's a good time for that and it is almost guaranteed that they are mated. I caught one by accident like 10 minutes ago.

Got the queen from my brother. She’s definitely C. pennsylvanicus.

Makes sense, they're the earliest flying of the Camponotus here as well.

Same here. Then the C. novaeboracensis fly later on the same day or the next day.

I wonder if Camponotus may fly today as we hit the 80s? It is still a bit early, though.

It is a bit early, true, but its been consistently warm for a few days in a row now. I'm really looking at Sunday here. Should be rain/storms Saturday then about 80 on Sunday. Decent odds, and should be kinda cooled off next week so I'm hoping for something before that haha

They're starting to fly by me. Yesterday the alates were wandering out around the nest entrance, never actually flew.

Same, I was expecting it to be a good day but none so far. I think I saw a male but I wasn't sure on the ID, I'd say about 70% chance. Probably set up a black light in the yard tonight
