Camponotus castaneus first flight and it was a big one.

They will likely fly again tonight

Weather, humidity, and wind?

I got one castaneus queen at my light last night but tons of males. How do you catch yours?

For me, it was in the high 80's all day and dropped to the high 70's after sunset. The hummidity was 60-70% and the wind was 7 mph.

In my experience they don’t come to black light. Males will but rarely queens and those that come will have wings and there is a good chance of not being fertile.

I catch only the de alates and I go to this parking lot with a flash light. Between 9:30-10pm is usually the best time to look for them

They always fly end of May to beginning of June once night temp hit above 75

For my self I’m only keeping a few. Most will go to permitted ant sellers and maybe a few locals
