As far as I'm aware, Lasius flavus is pleometrotic, not polygynous.

Myrmica incompleta are polygynous. There's a super colony here that spans for a few kilometers along the coast of the island.

the Lasius alienus colonies here produce a gynotype that almost resembles a parasitic queen like L.umbratus. These smaller queens, roughly half the size of the normal type seem to get along fine with each other even after workers are founded.

Had a very large sample of C. vicinus this year, in both the red and black variety (about 20 each), all collected from the eastern sierras in Northern California.

Put the reds and blacks in a large bin together with test tube setups, and the reds and blacks got together but never mixed. Many of the black variety were aggressive towards one another. Fast forward many months later, and the C. vicinus polygyonous red variety are doing great, whereas the black variety killed the other queen, or killed each other.

Myrmecologists classify C. vicinus into one species, but their coloring almost makes me think they are different in other ways. This would make for an interesting masters or PhD thesis.
