It was my lucky day today, I got photos of at least 5 new species this morning. This one was my favourite find. I think it is an Epopostruma sp. but gorgeous to look at. I saw this one in Beerwah, Qld.

I find it really cool how your taking pictures only a hour and 20mins away from me   B)

This ant has a funny shaped head and jaws, reminds me of a car key.

WideBrownLand, I have a D500 with a Nikon 105 macro and SB-700 speedlight. I use a diffuser on the flash. There’s a YouTube video on making a DIY flash diffuser from a #6 coffee ground filter. Keep posting, great shots!

This is a Rhytidoponera punctiventris that I saw on my recent road trip through NSW. I saw these ants in Parkes, NSW and they are really big compared to most Pony Ants I have seen.

Yes, it looks a bit knocked around. I saw a few ants today seemed to be missing an antenna for some reason.

Looking at your shots from the northeastern United States, I agree with ANTDrew. Your pictures bring a touch of warmth to our winter! You also show a wealth of species diversity. Keep it up!

I don't know, man. My winter has been pretty warm so far. It's 75 degrees here right now.

Hi there! I went on a 6 month or so hiatus, in part due, and in part cause of the death of my colonies.

However, I went back to the Sierras, and restarted my collection, which is now as follows:

Aphaenogaster uinta, Camponotus vicinus, Camponotus modoc, Formica cf. aserva, Formica cf. micropthalma, Formica cf. manni, Formica subpolita, Formica cf. subaenescens, Lasius americanus, Manica invidia, Pogonomyrmex salinus, Pogonomyrmex sp. 1, Solenopsis validiuscula, & Solenopsis sp. 3 (new Sierra variant).

My first Polyrhachis phryne from the Glasshouse Mountains, Qld. I had to be quick as this ant disappeared as soon as the photo was taken.

Beautiful! Just beautiful. I just brought Polyrhachis phryne queen from queenofants for half price because they look so good. Then I see your gorgeous photo. Thanks for sharing with us. I love so much seeing the pictures you take.
