Hello ant lovers,

Just thought I'd check out this forum and leave my mark! Hello, everyone. This topic will be full of updates and ant stuff from AntsCanada, and cool ant information will also be shared in this AntsCanada thread.

For now, here is our latest ant video featuring our large Solenopsis geminata colony in a network of Omni Nests. Enjoy!

Welcome, and wow that colony is HUGE. I like the longer, more detailed video.

Nice! I wonder if my Solenopsis colony is going to end up this huge. At the rate they are growing I wouldn't doubt it.

I have a few questions for you Mikey.  Love your videos btw.

1.  The ant box sees like a really interesting formicarium, but it's a pretty big investment.  Is it pretty popular at that price?  Just looking at it it looks like it would require less labor to make than an omni nest, but it's twice the cost, so I was wondering about that.

2.  Is there any chance you'll bring back the burrow?  I would love to buy one of those from you.

3.  Do you have any plans to sell a founding chamber style formicarium in the future?

Thanks for your time answering those questions MIkey!

You need to e-mail him. He does not visit this forum. He responds to e-mails pretty quickly.

Yeah I told him in the chat last night that I had put those questions in here...  I'll email him a reminder.

It rubs me the wrong way when vendors utilize user-contributed platforms for marketing but don't contribute otherwise. I know he was/is active on the yuku forum when I used to check it. That's just my $0.02, nothing more. :D

I know what you mean.  I was really excited because I had the impression he wanted to come chat with us, and would answer our questions, and it turned out he was just wanting to hype his launch video for the hybrid nest.

It's not like I am affiliated. I am simply telling him a better way to contact him. Yes, I understand your point but you are giving your 0.02 to a wrong place where it can't be heard by the guy who needs to hear. Shoot him an e-mail and tell him so.

I know, sorry if you thought I implied you were part of my issue. I'm not looking to start any debates or vendor drama, just been noticing this happening on a lot of other blogs, forums, etc. and this particular hobby can use his input and experience.

Back to the topic, does anyone have an established colony in any AC formicariums? I don't recall seeing any pictures.

I do know where you are coming from because I noticed what you've noticed. But let us take it to those who can make the changes in private. No need to bring it to the public where it seems the balance is fragile enough.

I'm not affiliated with anyone.  I'm brand new to this hobby, I don't have any relationships with any of these vendors at all.  I have spent a few dollars at Byformica, and I've chatted with Terry in the forums a little bit.  I've spent a few dollars at Tarheel, purchased a cube from that other company that I never received, and I wish I could buy a burrow from mikey, and I plan to by the new hybrid from him.  That is it...  So I don't have an ax to grind for any of them.  I'm not even aware of the particulars of the politics of this community, except to know there may be some.

I'll admit that I started off with a preference toward Mikey because his videos brought me into the hobby, his connections to Andrew got me my first queen, I really enjoy his videos, I think he's super talented, and I think his formicaria are innovative and interesting.

I feel like there was no reason for him to dodge my questions the way he did in the chat, or the way he has done since the chat.  They were simple questions about his products.  They were honest questions about his products.

I have received excellent customer service from Byformica.

I have received amazing customer service from Tarheel.  I didn't even have to ask him to be great to me, he just saw the need and took care of it.

I just don't see what is so difficult about expecting Mikey to answer 3 or 4 questions about his products when he comes in to chat with us about the launch of his hybrid.

I do expect him to answer my questions, and I'm pissed off that he refuses to.

Please, someone tell me I'm out of line if that's how you feel.

He should have answered your questions. I know he has a million things going on. Even while he was in the chat I'm sure he was multitasking, but it does seem like he might have been dodging those particular questions. I would just email him, and if he doesn't reply with an answer, then you know for sure he doesn't want to answer your questions. Don't forget what time zone he is in too, and no matter the time zone, sometimes it might take him a day or two to reply to emails.

I don't think you are out of line at all. If we're not honest with our own feelings, then how can we expect to better our relationships with others. It's better to be truthful than to harbor mistrust and ill feelings. Of course, it's always nice to cushion the words and phrases so that it makes a soft landing towards the person it is directed to. We're more likely to get the results we want if we avoid making the other party upset. We must remember that we are not perfect beings either, so some forgiveness here and there helps us to all get along in a world that is less than perfect. Most vendors contribute something tangible to our hobby even if it's just an idea rather than a product that we've all been waiting for.

I did email him and asked him to answer the questions, and he dodged them again, in a very similar fashion as he did in the chat.  He doesn't want to answer them for some reason.  Answering them would have taken him less time and effort than what he has put into dodging them at this point.
