Hey Californians!

We're currently working on a key for California Camponotus at Cal Academy, and we're hoping to get specimens donated from the community. Right now, we are missing specimens of: absquatulator, dumetorum, fragilis, johnsoni, maccooki, maritimus, us-ca02, anthrax queens, bakeri, clarithorax, essigi, sayi, and yogi. We would also be interested in semitestaceus and sansabeanus specimen. We would need collection information for the specimen, so please respond to this google form if you would like to contribute:

Feel free to DM for questions! This is a really great chance for the community to show that we are capable of advancing scientific endeavors and increase opportunities available to us. Another benefit is simply being able to ID Camponotus :D

Edit: did I mention your contributions will be acknowledged?  :o

This is an excellent project. Any antkeeper in California who wants to contribute, please do! This will help our growing community of antlovers better understand what is out there..

The current situation with Camponotus is a bit of a mess for CA, and Dr. Fisher wants to nail down the species for CA so we can easily key them out. He is starting out with Camponotus, and once that is complete we'll move on to Myrmecocystus.

Over the past ten years Drew and I have found things here that don't necessarily line up to any keys - would not be surprised if someone found something new or undescribed - so this is exciting stuff.
