Immigrans also hibernate through and don't have striking polymorphism like solenopsis.

If you are interested in Veromessor pergandei, which are medium sized polymorphic ants which don't sting, are easy to feed and care for, and grow fast, shoot me a pm.

I'm supprised no one has mentioned tetramorium, they're like xyloni but without the stinging risk

I mean, they grow fast, but they are really tiny and hard to see and enjoy. And they are invasive.
If you think they are tiny you haven’t seen thief ant Solenopsis or Temnothorax. Also they are plenty easy to see and observe.

This is what you should do in my opinion.

I'm interested in any species, really. i would like to get a few, that way my son doesnt stress out one colony by looking at it every day. id like to be able to let him look at a different colony every day, so they are bothered too much. but the prices for ants is high. I've got a few offers for like 10$ a colony, and that's really all i could see myself paying per colony at this moment. once we get experience, however, ill be getting a leaf cutter colony for myself for sure :P
