I wish my Pogonomyrmex survived.

I hope you have better luck this year. Try to find really easy species, nothing fancy.

Pogonomyrmex are pretty easy. Either that or I’m getting real good at this ant keeping thing.

I think many of the Pogonomyrmex THA is selling are not the strongest. My buddy here had issues with his, too.

Then I guess I got one of the better colonies.

I caught part of a large colony, that must have been over 3k strong, so probably 3-4 years old. I left behind 3 queens with the rest of the colony.

Oh, that’s that colony. I remember reading about them.

Yeah! They've really been growing lately. They're up to 350-400 workers now.

Update; 6/11/20

Camponotus pennsylvanicus; Colony #1
-----------------------------------------------

Verdandi is up to 12 workers, with a couple larvae, 2 dozen or so eggs and a few pupae. So far they've been eating cockroaches and sugar water, with the occasional fruit flies. Her colony should be above 50 workers by the end of this season in November. I'll grab some pics soon.

Camponotus americanus; Colonies #1 & #2
--------------------------------------------------

Queen #1 has 2 pupae, 4 large larvae and a few small larvae, and Queen #2 has a single pupa and 9 large larvae. Both queens might get workers this week. @ANTdrew, both queens need names!

Update; 6/16/20

Camponotus castaneus; Queen #1
--------------------------------

I finally found a live queen of this species when I accidentally dug her out of her founding cell, while looking for Proceratium specimens. Needless to say, I'm pretty excited to get her colony going! She's a dealate, and was in a founding cell, so its highly likely that she mated. I knew these have been flying for the past week or two, and was going to head out to a dark form population I know of 7 miles from my house on Sunday to dig some queens up. It looks like there's actually a light form population right in my backwoods! I'll head out later this week to try to locate the main population. However, I think they may be on another person's property, so I'll try to get permission to go out there and look.

P.s. @ANTdrew, she needs a name!

Give her the name of my old queen, Gunnlod.
My two new castaneus queens laid eggs. One dropped her wings.

It's great to see your queens have laid already! Hopefully my queen will lay soon.
