I know these are Pogonomyrmex, I just was hoping to get a definite ID on the species. I'm pretty sure these are the same as all the others I have seen in the OC, CA area.

Location:  Santa Ana, Orange County, CA.
Habitat:  Flat dirt along Santa Ana river bike trail in a semi-urban area.
Coloration, hue and pattern:  All red.
Length in millimeters:  6mm.
Every single one I saw was being attacked by about two to five Argentine ants at once.
