I was wondering how are you hibernating your colony’s Camponotus Iaevigatus in the test tubes and for how long do you hibernating them for and at what temperature ( Camponotus Iaevigatus will probably be my first ever ants to keep and care for )

I hibernate them in a wine cooler. I keep them in the low 50's for about four to five months.

Would a refrigerator or a freezer work the same way? cause I read that you lower there temperature by putting them somewhere cold not too cold till you reach like end of November. when they stop moving and then you just stick in them somewhere cold for 4-5 months then just take them out the beginning of spring and let them thermalregulate .

Just keep them around 50 degrees. Don't ever put them in the freezer or they'll all be dead.

Do Pogonomyrmex rugosus need to hibernate? And if not can you still give them the opportunity to or will that kill them ?

Hibernation is for ants that live where it snows.

If you're talking about the pyramid feeders, I make those.

 

The containers are probably BoxBox containers from the Container Store.

Found a bunch of these queens the other day. Colonies should be ready in about a month and a half.

I sell so many test tubes that I end up with a lot less than I realize from time to time. Time for another order I guess.

What time of day did you catch the formica? I got up at 8 and then had already flow. Alates in the pool all flew off when brought out, and didn't find any while walking.

By the way, I think the ones that I posted about flying on the SF Bay area anter page is this species, it looks to have stubby golden hairs all over the body.
