A rather large flight with many queens and males.

I wonder how the spiral will look at the end of the year on my flight map ;)

Species: Tapinoma sessile

Rain: Drizzle in the morning

I don't know if I'd necessarily consider the Tetramorium activity a "flight", per se. It was odd—alates were poking their heads out of some nest entrances and being dragged back inside their nests by workers at the mouths of other entrances, presumably belonging to neighboring, but unaffiliated colonies. There were also several dead males surrounding the nests and we managed to get our hands on a live female alate that seemed to have shed two of her four wings. We also collected a live, but weak Formicine male alate that I have yet to identify.

I thought they might be Temnothorax but just S. molesta. I hoped the Pogonomyrmex would be subnitidus but I think it's P. californicus

Species: 2 Solenopsis molesta, 1 Pogonomyrmex californicus or subnitidus

Location: Lytle Creek, California
Date:  6-13-2018
Time: 19:30-21:30 PM

Temperature: 80.4 F
Humidity: 23%
Wind: 4mph, pretty breezy
Rain: No recent rain

This Pogonomyrmex is weird. At first I thought there was fungus growing on its back but under a microscope they look like sand grains. I'm really not sure. Any thoughts? It's hard to check for spines too.

A member on another forum, from Indiana, found Lasius speculiventris on June 14th, said that they saw her pulling her wings off. I've only ever seen them fly with Lasius umbratus in the fall.

If you've enjoyed using my expertise and identifications, please do not create undue ecological risk by releasing your ants. The environment which we keep our pet insects is alien and oftentimes unsanitary, so ensure that wild populations stay safe by giving your ants the best care you can manage for the rest of their lives, as we must do with any other pet.

Exotic ants are for those who think that vibrant diversity is something you need to pay money to see. It is illegal to transport live ants across state lines.

There was rain as I found the queens, which seemed to stop the flights like it did that morning. The Tetramorium queen I found was being attacked by workers, seemed to be a small flight.

Two Tetramorium nuptial flights.  I'm assuming they flew the morning of collection.  I found 4 the first flight, and 7 the next flight, all the same species.

Species: Tetramorium immigrans
Location: Medford, OR, USA
Date:  6-12-2018
Time: 9:00 AM (collected)

Temperature: about 62°F
Humidity: 65%
Wind: light
Rain: trace of rain the day before

Species: Tetramorium immigrans
Location: Medford, OR, USA
Date:  6-18-2018
Time: 9:00 AM

Temperature: about 65° F
Humidity: 63%
Wind: light
Rain: storm two days before

In both these cases, I'm assuming they flew sometime around sunrise, though I did find a queen with one wing still attached at noon the second flight.  The overnight temperatures were fairly warm (low was around 60°F) and humidity before dawn was over 80%.
