Reveal: Formica pallidefulva dealate!

CONGRATS!! How’d you find her? There was a Formica flight here in NC and I saw maybe 40-50 queens today!! Too bad I can’t bring them back home....
You could’ve sold them. From what I can tell Formica queens are pretty hard to come by in VA.

Oh, didn’t see that. However, NC is North Carolina, not New York.

Today, I set up a dead cricket as ant bait outside, and a yellow Pheidole sp. came! They soon covered the whole cricket and several majors appeared. Then a Tetramorium worker came, and ran away. I thought he wouldn't bother calling his colony because the cricket was claimed, but soon after that, four more workers appeared and decimated the Pheidole.   :*(

Crazy storms rolled through my area last night. I went out at 10:00 to Dora Kelly Nature Park hoping for Formica, but I came up empty as usual. I did come across a Monomorium mega-swarm in the parking lot, though, and added four queens to my three queen polygynous grouping. I also came across a larger Pheidole species that I need to ID as well as this monstrosity of a beetle:

Found a molesta-group queen just now.

We just had a storm roll through. I bet they’ll come to black-lights. I’m good for tiny ants, though, with my 7-queen Monomorium group.
