Location:  O'Neill Regional Park, Orange County, California.
Habitat:  Oak forest/Coastal sage scrub.
Coloration, hue and pattern:  Black head, black thorax, and half brown, half black abdomen. Brown legs.
Length:  15mm.
I found this ant dead on the dirt trail in the sun. It was still soft, so it must not have died too long before I found it.
