Unfortunately, I don’t know. Most of my shooting is DSLR but there are many who’ve posted on this thread that use them. Look back through, check out the photos, and see if they’ve listed what they used. Perhaps they’ll respond to your query. If you go that route you could also consider one of the camera control apps reviewed in the link below

https://www.digitalc...one-and-android

This link looks at some of the available clip-ons. Give it a look and I’m sure you could find some more by searching for add on macro lenses for phones.

Good luck!

Are those macro lenses you clip onto your phone any good for taking pictures of ants?

Yes, they are.

Got myself a new toy, must say I am pretty happy with it, Canon 90D and a Canon EF 100mm f/2.8L Macro IS USM. This is far more camera than I have used in many years and there is a rather steep learning curve. Thanks goodness for automatic features.

Not an ant obviously but often found is close association with them, I have long been trying to get a good shot of one.

To answer a previous question regarding the clip on lenses, they can produce decent images provided your subject is fairly still and that you have enough light, the phone flash is often rendered useless (not that the phone flash is all that great to begin with) by the things and the light that comes with many of them is of almost no value.

Same pseudoscorpion with my old camera which will continue to be used as a take it to work with me camera. I have been very happy with it over the years and  aside from some increasing electrical issues it has served me well. It is a rather ancient Sony DSC 828 which replaced my even older Sony DSC 707.

What a cool creature! If I ever have more than two nickels to rub together, I will get a great camera like yours.

Does this count? It's not taken with a macro lens as I don't have any macro lenses, but it was big enough that I could even make out most of the details with my eyes and with the zoom feature on my camera, the picture even shows its seta on the gaster!

Testing the new macro lens, here's a picture of a Formica worker I snapped so that it would show maxillary palps, did I do a good job?

And the second species isn't L. niger, but rather L. brunneus or emarginatus. Excellent picture though!!

Hi there! I went on a 6 month or so hiatus, in part due, and in part cause of the death of my colonies.

However, I went back to the Sierras, and restarted my collection, which is now as follows:

Aphaenogaster uinta, Camponotus vicinus, Camponotus modoc, Formica cf. aserva, Formica cf. micropthalma, Formica cf. manni, Formica subpolita, Formica cf. subaenescens, Lasius americanus, Manica invidia, Pogonomyrmex salinus, Pogonomyrmex sp. 1, Solenopsis validiuscula, & Solenopsis sp. 3 (new Sierra variant).

Wait, really?! They always invade my house, I always just assumed them to be the most common Lasius, hmm, maybe I'll keep a Lasius after all.
