Neivamyrmex "flew" (do they fly? Or do they just split up their colonies and the male flies off?). I found a male in the pool. Pretty obvious what species the male was, Neivamyrmex are very easy to identify (even the males).

Solenopsis invicta males were everywhere in the pool, saw no queens.

A third species was flying, dad saw the queen, but I missed it. Some type of queen with a large (half an inch long), pure black, elongated body. No idea the species, but tomorrow I hope to find one.

Species: Lasius sp.

Location: Richmond, BC

Time: 6:pm

Temperature:  Around 22C maybe?

Humidity: Not very humid

Wind: None

Weather: Sunny

Rain: none for past week

Species: Myrmica sp.

Location: Richmond, BC

Date: 8-26-2015

Time: 11:pm 12:pm and 1:30pm - 4:pm

Temperature:  Around 21C and 23C

Humidity: Not very humid

Wind: None

Weather: Sunny with clouds

Rain: none for past week

Notes: They didn't have mass flights or really flew at all, it was more of a "nuptial gathering". The "gatherings" were really localized and no males were present. Some queens flew but most did not and the small minority that shed their wings all went back into their colonies. Also all the flights/gatherings  they had last year were on really cloudy days not sunny+clouds.

After having a discussion with someone telling Pogonomyrmex are only found in the southern US states, and not anywhere even close to Alberta, here is some historic flight and location data for Pogonomyrmex occidentalis in Alberta.  Although, Alberta is at the northernmost part of their range and they are likely rare and/or geographically isolated

Pogonomyrmex flew on July 27, 2014 in Medicine Hat (Alberta).

There are a colony found in Lethbridge in 2010.

They are on Antweb.org for Alberta

Map for their range (not very helpful for finding them)
