I know right? :D He said he caught a bunch of acromyrmex queens, but they did not have fungus, so he was just giving them away.

omg I got two queens and I literally had just found the extra test tube!

That was very kind!

I have no clue how to care for leafcutters but I will do my best, I gave them little dirt areas to dig in, and I think they need some fresh small leaves now? They tuck the fungus in somewhere when they fly ...

I also got two queens from him. Unfortunately one of them killed the other. Also, he was giving them away because they were not making any fungus, which is why I am asking people for some. The setup I am going to use at first would probably be a petri dish nest.

The queens that were collected are probably not going to take care of the fungus and are not going to lay any eggs that will start a colony.  They were most likely just queens turned into workers since they did not fly last year due to there not being any rain.  I got 5 queens from cocdeshijie and they destroyed the fungus I gave them from my colony immediately, like they did for many other people who got them.  Cocdeshijie did not advertise these queens as being fertile, so there is no fault to him on this.

I see dealates foraging with workers all the time, sometimes even large numbers of them. Most likely that is what these were. There is no way Acromyrmex versicolor had a mating flight in January.

I know there is no fault for him on this. I am grateful that he gave them away. But now that have I leafcutter ant queen I just want to take care of and her possible future colony to the best of my ability.
