Just a random question. I personally prefer the fallen fortress, but I just want to hear other people thoughts.

It really depends on the genus and species you intend to use it with. The regular fortress is much better for genera like camponotus, Formica, novomessor and myrmecocystus, while the fallen is better for genera like solenopsis, pheidole, pogonomyrmex and veromessor.

the first 4 genera are better suited to the fortress because they like to hang from the roof of the nest and are quite large. Fallen fortress is much better for genera that are either small with large colonies because of both better viewing and smaller chambers, or genera that have trouble climbing, like pogonomyrmex, veromessor or any ponerines.

Sounds like pretty good advice above.

Yeah you definitely wouldn't want a Fallen for any honeypots who have hanging repletes.

 

TBH my Veromessor pergandei have never had climbable ceilings so I don't know if I'm missing out on anything, and the andrei don't seem super attached (get it ... attached...) to having climbable ceilings. But both my pergandei colonies are doing well in a Fallen and a Labyrinth (actually too well... the Labyrinth is seriously overflowing).

 

Pogonomyrmex can make their vertical glass disgusting, so I'm really looking forward to having them in a Fallen Fortress where they can't climb on the ceiling to soil it!
