So recently my Pogonomyrmex queen died of stress (i think), so now I'm looking to get a new colony since i got like 80-90 dollars in giftcards, the thing is its very expensive for 10, 80 dollars, what should i do lol (id also like to have a formicarium for them but I'm making a hydrocal one soon)

Why does everyone gotta go overboard with ants bruh just buy the ones with one batch of workers it’s way cheaper especially since it’s on sale, nothing has to be super expensive unless you make it like that.

Wait until spring and find easy queens to raise. I don’t think Pogonomyrmex are that easy.

i think ill buy them since their the cheapest and just give them the hydrocal formicarium i planned on making, ill spend the rest on random [censored]

I would get something bigger. Like a mini hearth. Atom nests are basically alternatives to test tubes and aren't suitable for growing colonies.

get a devolve chamber if you plan on getting a colony, also If you plan on getting a colony then spend your money wisely.

A discus would be larger alternative as well.

Wait until spring and find easy queens to raise. I don’t think Pogonomyrmex are that easy.

Idk about founding them but my Pogonomyrmex colony which has like 30-45 workers is super easy to care for. For seeds you just need dandelion seeds or some other sorts of seeds that they like. For protein they'll eat anything. Mine will eat fish flakes and egg yolk.

i already got dandelion seeds and some deformed mealworms and darklings for now, i got some old fish flakes that expire in year

wdym a queen i got a 40+ colony, the queen died even though I'm pretty sure i didn't do anything wrong, i already have multiple living queens

oh yeah i forgot about that, ig I'm just a [censored] ant keeper, i might not ant keep this summer, after all I've been neglecting my social life for multiple months now for ants discord, i wish i didn't put so much money that later would end up being not of good use
