hiii so i noticed that the gender options only include “male, female, or not telling” that doesn’t really represent some people who don’t align with male or female, so would it be possible to add another option as well? like “other”

:)

well i mean it still hasn’t been changed... :P

i get that people don't think gender has anything to do on a forum with ants, but i don't think its a super hard change to make for dspdrew? (i might be wrong)

i just think it would be more representing

Yeah I agree. Going to the source normally works best.

drtrmiller put it this way, "While it is critical to the continued growth of this community that we make every aspiring antkeeper feel welcome here, the reality is that these sorts of positive discussions and requests are likely to trigger some of our more sensitive members to post intolerant remarks, or to proceed to ask questions in bad faith, as evidenced by some of the responses thus far.  Consequently, it is probably best if requests of this type are directed to the forum admin dspdrew through private message, rather than put forth for public discussion."

Sure, but as a new member, Swirly most likely would not have come across the old discussion until she asked.  There's no need to say "If u want it to change then ask Drew instead of making a post about it  " since she would not have known beforehand.

I mean you guys didn’t have to shut them down immediately. It doesn’t really show the good side of this community.

I'm not trying to be rude but formiculture is not a political forum and never will be.

This isn't about politics. It was just a request from them for a new gender option, and you guys shut them down.

So, I have some pretty severe gender dysphoria issues, I say this to present my bona fides as it were. Honestly, when I present contrary to my biological sex, I find it offensive when people are like "what _are_ you?" even if they are trying to be polite.  I never go for androgyny, I present as either male or female.

When staring at a list of "genders" (in quotations to notate a category, not to dismiss any potential inclusions to the category) it actually fills me with dread.  No longer am I selecting how I present, now I'm having to put a label on something.  And I feel like no matter what I choose I'm going to pick the wrong one.  On a forum, gender is just listed as short hand to communicate your pronouns, but in many ways it is irrelevant.  Now, I'm a netbaby technomancer, so I do honestly see people online more as their avatar and screen name.  @Kaelwizard is a moth mage. @Swirlysnowflake, you're an ant on a leaf, and we all love ants here.  Your gender isn't important to me, its our shared love of a hobby that matters.  I hope nobody cares about my gender here either.

I'd rather see the "gender" field eliminated than filled with more and more options, because really our gender is the least interesting thing about us.

Inclusion is about welcoming others and ignoring out differences.  Highlighting them, I think, only serves to divide.

Go to the ant, you sluggard; consider its ways and be wise! It has no commander, no overseer or ruler, yet it stores its provisions in summer and gathers its food at harvest. -Proverbs 6: 6-8
