i want to buy Pogonomyrmex occidentalis queen n workers I'm n the SFV Calif will take pogonomyrmex californicus if they are solid red front to back

I'm getting a bunch of queens in June, but you'll need a permit since you're in California.

Since you're in cali you can get the much larger and cooler species that don't hibernate.

Don't even waste your time trying to buy those. California has way better species than that.

There are still more interesting species that can be bought for a hundred or so dollars.

True I'm in michigan and there are more interesting species than a harvester ant

I still consider them interesting as far as northern ants go, though. Some northern rivals (as far as 'interesting' goes) in my opinion would be Pheidole, Solenopsis molesta, Stigmatomma pallipes, just to name a few. However, South Dakota actually does have a lot of Pogonomyrmex occidentalis in the dry, western part of the state, so I'd actually consider them one of the top five most interesting in my state, however.
