Excellent. I’ll definitely follow this thread. These are probably my favorite ants. I love how active they are, yet chill at the same time.
Some observations:
1. I think their reputation for being difficult to found is uncalled for. I’ve never had queens eat brood if I only check them a reasonable amount.

2. Native vines like Trumpet creeper and Virginia creeper vines are really important for these arboreal ants. They tend aphids on them and feed on sweet exudates from the vines themselves. People searching for these queens should look in forest edges with a high density of native vegetation.

3. These are the Labor Day ants of the southern states.

Corretion on thine impersonation of the Old English language. Thou clearly didst not understand that on the second sentence you hath write, thee typed thy instead of thine. Okay, I'll stop. I still have never seen a Crematogaster worker in my life.

Hi there! I went on a 6 month or so hiatus, in part due, and in part cause of the death of my colonies.

However, I went back to the Sierras, and restarted my collection, which is now as follows:

Aphaenogaster uinta, Camponotus vicinus, Camponotus modoc, Formica cf. aserva, Formica cf. micropthalma, Formica cf. manni, Formica subpolita, Formica cf. subaenescens, Lasius americanus, Manica invidia, Pogonomyrmex salinus, Pogonomyrmex sp. 1, Solenopsis validiuscula, & Solenopsis sp. 3 (new Sierra variant).

Dang, man. Come on out to the east coast. They’re everywhere, basically.

Exactly the same. I don't know why. Maybe they are too small, or don't like the cold winters up here...

I've been looking for my two native species, only seen three queens missing their gasters.

LOL, I don't think I can compare to the Crematomastery of AntDrew or AntDude, but in my short time keeping them, I learned a few things. They are hungry, give them tons of insects, almost everyday. They like fruitflies. Give honey every few days or so, be careful to make the honey drops small. They aren't as fall-happy as Tetramorium, but be careful of them getting stuck. They like indirect heat, 75-78F. That's about it.

My crematogastor made it through the winter. I gave some sugar water and cricket yesterday and about ten came out of their board and ate up.

I'm going to try to go out as much as possible to catch ants, so I may end up with these gals! We'll see at the end of the year...but in the meantime, this is a really funny and chill thread!
