Hello, I'm starting this journal pretty late, but I'll be adding plenty of updates.
I'll be making this journal on 4 of my Camponotus Ca02 colonies.
Journal Update Coming 10/19/19

What's different about this species (like why it doesn't have an ungodly long name that takes me a full day to master spelling)/ what does the Ca02 mean?
There is a important time for everything, important place for everyone, an important person for everybody, and an important ant for each and every ant keeper and myrmecologist alike

It is not named. It is virtually unstudied. This is the first year that some have found queens. I am going to try to find some of my own queens in April, 2020. Oh, and the reson everyone wants them is they are giant. Almost 20mm.
Hi there! I went on a 6 month or so hiatus, in part due, and in part cause of the death of my colonies.
However, I went back to the Sierras, and restarted my collection, which is now as follows:
Aphaenogaster uinta, Camponotus vicinus, Camponotus modoc, Formica cf. aserva, Formica cf. micropthalma, Formica cf. manni, Formica subpolita, Formica cf. subaenescens, Lasius americanus, Manica invidia, Pogonomyrmex salinus, Pogonomyrmex sp. 1, Solenopsis validiuscula, & Solenopsis sp. 3 (new Sierra variant).

Well, sadly, some people think that jet black ants are "dull".
They're massive, but C. quercicola is pretty much the same, just black and stubbier legs.

If you keep them for most of your ant keeping career, any ant would become dull over the yearsWell, sadly, some people think that jet black ants are "dull".

I certainly agree.I disagree! Personally I never get bored of my favorite species of ants. Who would get bored of Pogonomyrmex anyways...

Camponotous isn't a harvesting ant.

Feed them mealworms or some invertebrate that has some life left when it is "killed"

Because the giant workers attacking the still semi alive insect would be one of the most entertaining things ever
