The Brachymyrmex are flying at night. Never seen so many, 100s of thousands of them or more all over flying. So if anyone is interested in brachymyrmex, they are flying by the millions, never seen such massive flights

Does anyone who lives more near San Diego have suggestions of places to look? I keep seeing posts about people catching stuff so I went to Mission Trails and found nothing. Where can I go that's not in LA?

Your backyard. You would have probably found some Brachymyrmex if you did last night. Try again tonight, you might find a couple.

Hi there! I went on a 6 month or so hiatus, in part due, and in part cause of the death of my colonies.

However, I went back to the Sierras, and restarted my collection, which is now as follows:

Aphaenogaster uinta, Camponotus vicinus, Camponotus modoc, Formica cf. aserva, Formica cf. micropthalma, Formica cf. manni, Formica subpolita, Formica cf. subaenescens, Lasius americanus, Manica invidia, Pogonomyrmex salinus, Pogonomyrmex sp. 1, Solenopsis validiuscula, & Solenopsis sp. 3 (new Sierra variant).

A good place to go would be a desert. Go the first hot day after a thunderstorm or just a time with a good amount of rain.

Did you find Brachymyrmexes too? I think they flew a lot.

Currently Keeping:

Yes. I have seen hundreds of queens at blacklights. And I live in the stereotypical Southern California suburbs.

There might be Camponotus, but the only ones I would be sure on would be the Brachymyrmex.

Maybe. It depends on the wind and temperature. Needs to be less than 3mph of wind, and in the mid 70's.

Probably not any Camponotus in the city. You might find some S. xyloni or Nylanderia vividula though.

Try searching the forum or Google to learn about and look at both genera.
