I noticed your new formicarium was released yesterday, but I don't see it on Amazon.com and I don't see a link to purchase it on your website.  Can you let me know how to purchase it?

Yes. Do you want me to make one for you with custom colors?

I'll post a picture and buy link of the actual formicarium as soon as you tell me what colors you prefer.

I'll take one in white to start, and depending on the price, I'll probably order several more.

That mercury liquid feeder looks bada$$!

Oh btw the leftover liquid aqua 300 that I microwaved, they did like it a lot more than the liquid.

Unless you simply want white sand and coconut throughout the whole thing, they're all made of white plastic—only the substrate color is customizable by the purchaser.

I'm going to take pictures of four I'm making tonight and you can decide whether you want one of them or you want to specify custom substrate colors.  The pictures I'll take should be self-explanatory as to what the colors are for.

Adding new themes to choose from.  Themes mainly apply to the foraging area decor, but also provide a pre-defined color palette if you're unsure what color(s) to select.

  • Beach
  • Woodlands
  • Desert
  • Cute - May be added to any theme for a more saturated color palettes

Displayed below is the "Cute Beach" theme.

I think beach and sage would work best for me, with a desert theme outworld.  What kind of cost am I looking at?

Thanks,

Thanks,

I just made yours and emailed you the details.

If you want to emulate the true desert, Tan or Peach color may work better.  Beach color with Desert theme leans toward Beach theme.

Sold!

Only one prototype remains unsold!

This is a version 1.9, pre-customized with silver, white, and coconut.  This does not contain the Floor Offset Holes, and so if rubber bumpers are needed, it will sit higher off the ground than the current version.  All other features are present.  As a prototype, it has very slight cosmetic imperfections (unsanded burr) on the bottom of the product, visible on the bottom perimeter, in the picture.

This is being sold with a detachable foraging area (not pictured).  Since this is an early version product, it is being sold at a reduced price of $22.99, with FREE 2-Day Shipping for U.S. customers!

I noticed you had fluon for sale. Must be a really recent addition, I looked a day or two ago and there was no fluon listing on amazon. Quite a nice deal too! 3 bottles pre-made for only 30 dollars (so 10 dollars a bottle)...and no shipping. Which was great to see. Actually quite a nice deal to be honest and I just like it because shipping is free and not more than the product itself. And, fluon in general tends to be SUPER expensive and near impossible to find in the states.

I never used fluon before so its new to me. And, I'm probably the first person to buy it from you since you put it up. :P Well, technically my dad got it...but I'm one going to use it. I noticed at the time there was only 5 in stock, so guess now only 4. :P

It's actually a very unique product.  We studied the minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) and tested a number of applicators to arrive at something that works really well for most antkeepers.

The shop just reopened after a short break from selling (to finish developing new products, coming soon).

The help page at http://www.byformica.com/fluon will serve as the instruction guide, although I still have some printed instructions left over from the first edition that was manufactured last year.

Let me know if you have any questions :~)

When the stuff gets here, I'll take a better look at the help page. :) Sometimes my memory can be bad so I have to re-read things a lot. :P

Didn't realize it needed refrigerating though. Which is good to know. Is there a reason for that and not just leaving it in room temperature? Just curious. Also, from my understanding, the less the better (and that is what I got out of briefly reading your help page on it). Seems to be pretty key part of applying fluon is use as little as possible. At least that is my understanding, since everywhere I read is pretty much "a little goes a long way". I'll be most nervous applying it for the first time! Sometimes I have a habit of putting too much barrier (like the various teflons I've tried) on my ant farm.

Added your question and answer to the FAQ:

  • Why does the product require refrigeration?
    • Per the MSDS, higher temperatures promote settling of the suspension, and can cause chemical changes that affect the preservatives, resulting in possible odor and scum from bacterial growth.

Ah, makes sense. :)

Now I do have one last question. Any advice on not putting too much on? :P Besides gently squeezing the bottle. That is my hardest problem I have with putting on barriers lol...I tend to put WAY too much on. Like I'm painting a house...its a really bad habit. But, sometimes too much goes on my brush or something. And I'd rather learn myself, not have someone put it on for me as that isn't really learning.

It applies just like a marker.  The bottles are not very squeezable.  You'll see the glass get wet where it's applied, and as long as it doesn't drip, you'll be applying just the right amount and will be fine.  Like I've said, our newest bottles take a lot of the guesswork out of application.
