Update 9-7-2023
I found one of these up around Ortega Highway in the Santa Ana mountains while I was collecting Camponotus us-ca02 this spring.
It looks like it might be a dud because it still has nothing but a small brood pile.

Well something finally eclosed... a male. I think I'm just going to pin this queen up... and the male.
