Camponotus chromaiodes flew today in Virginia. My son spotted this beauty.

Nylanderia flavipes flew this afternoon here in Virginia.

Cool! Where in Virginia are you? I have a lot of flavipes in my yard and I haven't seen any flying, but it is still raining a lot here in Charlottesville so they will probably fly after it stops.

Cool! Where in Virginia are you? I have a lot of flavipes in my yard and I haven't seen any flying, but it is still raining a lot here in Charlottesville so they will probably fly after it stops.

Okay. I haven't been able to catch any queens yet this year. I've seen them but I never have had something to catch them with. I guess I'll have to start bringing test tubes to school.

I just flipped a rock with Nylanderia under it and they had many alates they will be flying soon I believe.

This morning tetramorium immigrans had their Nuptial flight

 

sadly I didn't find any queens but I did see tetramorium immigrans workers running around with Alates

I found an alate queen with her wings stuck to the dew on my car this morning. Hopefully she mated before getting stuck.

I looked at the weather app. Looked like it was low sixties in Virginia. If I live in ny. I guess tetras would fly in a few weeks. Maybe they already flew.

They will fly very soon in New York. Zero chance they have already flown, plus they fly over and over whenever conditions are right.

Two of my friends said that they saw huge swarms if ants some when wings I assumed it was pavement ants so I will be looking for them.
