It’s been almost two weeks since I got my first ant colony. Purchased a queen with some workers and even a major(wow!) in a test tube pencil case setup.

Decided to build my own grout outworld with a simple design. Was going to build my own grout formicarium, but I think I’ll save that for another colony.

I decided to move them into the AntsCanada formicarium I bought. I think I made my first mistake; it’s a bit big for the colony. Too late to go back now.

While moving them I got a good look at the eggs along with the rest of the brood when they were hiding it from the light in the grey connector, before I positioned a small flashlight to shine in it. Plenty of them. I watched them for the first hour after I connected the test tube. At first only a few ants wondered into the formicarium. I decided to go play some video games, and when I came back to check they had completed the move. Luckily I got a time lapse of the move.

That was last nite. Today it seems that they have still not found the outworld. I keep seeing workers coming back into their old home. So I think I’m going to run a tube from where the test tube is now to the currently plugged up other end of the outworld. I’m hoping a few ants will be in the tube when I do it, so I can place it in the outworld and they will make it back and tell their sisters.
