Absolutely massive C. novaeboracensis flight today. Queens were dropping like flies (literally dropping, and they have wings, get it?).

Whereabouts? I'm in Saginaw and I never see novos, plenty of penns though. Let me know if you have any extra.

South Lyon. I didn't keep them as I'm moving to California and I wouldn't be able to give any away.

 

C. pennsylvanicus will probably fly after the rainstorms this week (though today might be the only one, who knows).

Yeah we got a little rain yesterday morning and I grabbed 7 penns last night. If you see any more novos grab them for me an I'll come get them from ya 😁

I caught three tetra on my doorstep yesterday, and then a Formica pallidefulva today. I haven't been out looking though. Maybe I should, seems it's the season.

Formica pallidefulva were everywhere today at my house. I have enough but if anybody wants some, let me know. I watched one land on the sidewalk, tear off her wings, and run into the grass in the span of about 5 seconds, that was neat.

Wow. I can’t find Formica to save my life here in Virginia. I’ve spent every suitable summer day for the past four summers, and all I have to show for it is two queens, both of which died.

I wish I could send you some. For what it's worth it was probably 82F and they started dropping around 10 or 11am. Tons of them visible running around at noon. I could look out my window at the driveway from my la-z-boy and easily spot 3 or 4 at a time. It's not a one time event either, there was another day about a week ago where they weren't quite as numerous but easy to find.

I also have those sanguinea species in the yard that steal brood from the pallidefulva. I always feel a little sad when I see that happening, but apparently the pallidefulva are doing just fine!

New to this forum and relatively new to antkeeping, I have two Colonies in their founding stages both are camponotus, I was wondering if anyone could tell me when to be on the lookout for Pheidole Queens, Lasius Queens, Tetramorium Queens, as well as Solenopsis queens? I'm in the Flint area. If you guys have any experience catching queens any tips for catching these species would be much appreciated!

Get a copy of A Field Guide to the Ants of New England. Most of the ants described would also be found in Michigan.
