I'd really like to catch some spring camponotus flights this season. Is there anywhere anyone can recommend at least to relatively close to southern California?

Practically any area in and around the local mountains will have spring-flying Camponotus. Unless there are specific species being targeted, there is no area where you wouldn't catch anything. If you just want to go and experience a general flight, just pick a random trail and go.
