I took drew's formicarium 06 I believe is what it was called, and just made some changes. Just uploaded, so the quality is not the best. Just using these for personal colonies. This first one was more of a test than anything, but I will still be using it. I personally love that natural look, what do ya'll think?

Love the water refill idea. Makes it easier to refill without having to disturb the colony.

Going forward, I would change one thing to make this design more efficient. Cut the tube so that it doesn't go beyond above the upper lip of the cover that way you could stack this if you make more.

you give me more ideas haha. a 1 inch tube to drop in food from above to a petri dish below perhaps?

Yeah, not a bad idea, gonna have to make this the top one though. LOL See, when I was doing the cuts, I accidentally made the whole in the lid a little too large, so there is a gap. The lid covers that up.

And for the food drop, do you mean, just something on the side to drop food in? Make it so I don't have to un-stack them.

Nice. I like the video.

Although, if lifting the formicarium up to refill the water tank is too disturbing to the ants, why wouldn't lifting the entire setup off the one it's stacked on be just as disturbing? Personally I think a little disturbance once a week is not even an issue, and not worth the extra work and inconvenience of a fill tube going through the out world.

Yeah, I think either would be fine. Gonna build a second differently and see which I like better.

I really like this design! Also, I think the food drop idea is great. Just unplug, drop, plug, done! It would cut down on stress from opening the lid to the outworld.

Aren't the ants going to dig and nest in the outworld?

The dirt and plants are artificial. It is impossible for the ants to dig in it.

Like I stated in the video, this is for personal colonies and the design idea was Drews. I will not be selling these for that reason. I can't profit from another guys designs. :)

Nice job. Looks natural, yet it is still practical and the ants won't burrow in the outworld. A great happy medium.
