Hey guys, just finished up my first video. The content right now won't be too great, but it will get better. I should have edited some stuff out that I didn't, but anyways, here is the first. I'm getting some different equipment soon, so they will get better... This first one wasn't too great.

Wow, the Camponotus didn't surprise me as I've seen them like that here before, but I was blown away by the frozen Lasius ants.

Just wondering... why do you put them in such deep temps for hibernation?

I really like the videos.

Maybe add longer time to read, I came close to not finishing reading some of the text.

Yeah, I agree with you. There should be a longer time to read.

Or maybe even some narration. Narrating always make videos more captivating in my opinion.

Just wondering... why do you put them in such deep temps for hibernation?

Wooorrrd.
They're meant to hibernate, not go through a cryo-freeze.
More like suspended animation, than hibernation my man...why so drastic??

But great videos anyway...what happened to the larvae/eggs, have they survived the cryo-freeze?? Are they developing??

In this region that's how cold they would get in the wild. It gets very cold here in the winter.

But the earth has a geothermal temp and the ants are insulated by water tables and the ground they're bunkered down in. Surely their ambient air temp doesn't go so drastically low when they're hibernating underground?
The glass of testubes provide no insulation and your basically cryo-freezing ..
Not so sure I'd expose them to anything below -10C.
Even if they're Minnesota ants, I still don't think the outside temps resemble a hibernation chambers temperature...just saying...

Did the lavae pupate or continue to develop after freezing like that? I'm super curious
And did they lay eggs after??
