I've been suggested to make a journal about my thriving Myrmecina americana colony so here it is! I'll try to do weekly updates on them and try to send pictures of their activity every so often. I'll start off with just how I've kept them and some suggestions to others who are attempting to try to keep this species. I got my queen about a year ago in August. The queens are very similar to the size of their workers so I was a little doubtful it was a queen. She soon laid eggs at about 4-5 days after capture. I kept her in the regular test tube setup. I've kept her with a high humidity gradient and a 67-76 degree gradient. The larvae take a while to mature to adults and I would say anywhere between 1-2 months. Right now, I have about 60ish workers and about 30-40 larvae and 20ish eggs. I keep them in a grout nest I've made. They seem to be very hardy species and love to hang out in the smaller tunnels over the larger ones. This species is absolutely NOT Polygnye. I've tried to add a queen and it quickly became a battle. I quickly removed the queen and put her in a new test tube setup. I feed my colony crushed crickets and mealworms. They will also drink sugar-water with LOW concentrations of sugar. If there's too much they'll ignore it. That will be my update for this week. Next week, I'll send pictures.

They aren't great pictures, but I just need to find my older camera, but they will do for now.

I think the problem might be that you have the album on the private setting.
