Hello.

My name is Marc but I'm generally known as "Teleutotje" on certain forums, blogs and ant-sites in the U.S.A., Germany, The Netherlands, Great Britain and Belgium. I'm a biologist with a passion for Myrmecology. Since 1983 I'm specialized in scientific literature about ants and start to know something about them and hope to learn much more. All ants are my favorites but I have a special interest for inquilines.

My favorite (sub-) genera are Dorylus (Anomma), Oecophylla, Solenopsis (Solenopsis) (or fire ants), Martialis, Myrmica, Anergates,... and Teleutomyrmex. Like you can see I still use Anergates and Teleutomyrmex and disagree with the recent synonymy of both under Tetramorium.

My favorites are all Attine, Odontomachus, Cephalotes, Myrmecocystus, and Pheidole (Tepicana).

Good to see you in this meeting place.

I don't disagree with these synonymies (one really can't, unless one publishes a good scientific justification resurrect the ""sunk" genera), but I don't like them. Taken to the extreme, this sort of synonymy would result in no genera at all, simply the strictly monophyletic Family Formicidae, or as Linnaeus would have put it, genus Formica for all ants. And let us not forget that apparently all life is ultimately monophyletic, so why name subcategories at all.

And yet, some of the genera recognized in the recent reclassification are barely recognizable.

I could go on with more specific criticisms, but as people say, "It is what it is." (for now)
