Posted Imagequeen about 25 mm long. Around an inch.
Posted Imagequeen and worker. Worker 20 mm.

New south wales australia. Sand mound. Brownish blackish almost green head and thorax. Shiny black gaster with a brownish reddish yellowish tip. Bottom half of legs brown mandibles and antennae same colour as legs. Did not display "hopping" or jumping. Saw us from about 1.5 meters away.

Wow. Those are majestic.  

 

Are you sure they're just not a timid Myrmecia pilosula?  Younger, incipient colonies of many ant species are not as aggressive as when they become older.  Appearance and anatomy will trump behavior, in most all cases of ant ID.

The pilosula is listed as way too small to be these. Worker 12-14 mm
