Is this a queen ant

I found this ant in a colony of very small red ants but when I went back outside about 15minutes later and grabbed workers from the hole I dug to get the queen the queen killed the workers off. This is what it looks like. https://mobile.twitt...5218178/photo/1

What do you mean by "very" small? Formica aren't typically associated with smaller sized castes, can you provide some accurate measurements?

What do you mean by "very" small? Formica aren't typically associated with smaller sized castes, can you provide some accurate measurements?


Where I found it the ants were about 1/10 the size of the queen

Looks like a Formica queen to me, but I think we need some other angle shots such as one of the side view. If it isn't what it appears in the first image, then It might be a Camponotus major.

Looks like a Formica queen to me, but I think we need some other angle shots such as one of the side view. If it isn't what it appears in the first image, then It might be a Camponotus major.

I'll post more once I get her out from the nest she made XD

This looks like a Formica worker. 

 

I agree, I don't think it's a queen.
