Don't tell them it's for research either. Hobby is the magic word.

I've heard that you can actually get a collecting permit for insects fairly easily but that you need to get one from each National Forest that you plan to be collecting in (similar to firewood).

 

 

Why would you do that when you can just collect as a hobby without a permit.

Well...for people who hope to get involved in the GAN project they could be in a sticky spot if they catch a ranger on a bad day with 20 queens they collected (because it seems like more than a "personal" amount).

Just saying it might be worth looking into if you plan to sell queens that you collect from National Forests and the line between reasonable hobby collecting and something that looks like commercial collection is something to keep in mind.

Well if it were me, id just describe the chance of a colony failing (i fail pretty bad often) so 20 might seem like a lot, but for me not really. (actually it is a lot cause idk if ill catch 20)

That's exactly why I collect as many as I do. If all goes well, there is a good chance I'll end up with extras. Those are mainly what i sell through GAN.
