Hi.

I've just found a beautiful adult female locust at the tennis court (dubbed "Stripes", due to a light brown stripe down its head). It was tangled up in the court net and probably got blown in by the powerful winds today.

I took it home and placed it into a large critter keeper with lots of sphagnum moss. Aft ten minutes, it laid eggs!  I never had a pet that laid eggs literally right away.

It poked a ton of holes in the ground with its abdomen and eventually seemed happy with one. It probably laid eggs because it plugged its hole with foam.

I'm going to try to rear these eggs to adulthood. I'm excited to try keeping this species, and it will be a totally new experience for me. Also, Stripes is still alive. I hope she'll live for a while longer!

~EDIT
Changed what was here to something I just learned about these locusts

I just learned that a swarm of this species wiped out about 70% of plant life on Nihoa! Crazy...

I can't change my signature to include the locust, the weird stick-head grasshopper, the pharaoh ants, and the house gecko... weird...

Lol Double Posting on your own thread.

Sorry, but is double posting posting twice on a topic? I've done it before and you've never said anything.

Also, there is a huge clutch of eggs at the bottom. I just checked.

Is double posting illegal?

I'm going to name the future locust nymphs after the members of this forum. You can post a name that you want to be used (your username, your name, or a random name) for the locust babies. I will pick the names randomly.

Lol, It's not illegal but is against the rules here. Just clutters up a nice thread. Ummmm if you double posted twice, I'm sure someone said something about it.

There's no double posting here. Plus you've done plenty to break the rules of this forum, AA.

The only rules I know I broke were Rule 2. Rule 8 doesn't apply for I wasn't doing illegal crap in the OPEN forum. (Yes I just double posted)

"I can't change my signature to include the locust, the weird stick-head grasshopper, the pharaoh ants, and the house gecko... weird..." Just ask about this to an admin or in the chatroom. Nothing wrong I guess, but the rules do state....

Thanks, Martialis. Also, Alabama Anter, I appreciate that you still tried to help with the double posting and now I'm aware of some of the rules that I didn't read before.

Does anyone still want to have a locust baby named after them?

Still accepting names! There are a ton of eggs. Hopefully I'll get some girl names soon unless all of the babies are male.

I don't believe there is a written definition for a double post, but most forums I've visited define it as two posts made by a user in one thread side-by-side within close period of time.
