Colony Size: 1 queen; 10-15 brood
 
Location: Shawnee County, Kansas; wooded area near Perry Lake; underneath the bark of an old fell tree
 
Collection Method: coached into collection container
 
Conditions: 3:00 pm cst; warm, sunny
 
Family:    Formicidae
Subfamily: Formicinae
Tribe:     Camponotini
Genus:     Camponotus
Species:   pennsylvanicus

This queen was collected this year, she's not the biggest of C. pennsylvanicus queens that I've seen but she is a pretty good egg layer thus far.  I decided to try her out in my Tarheel Ants growth chamber and so far I'm satisfied with her progress!  I'll be sure and set a monthly reminder on my phone to update this journal for you all.  Here are a couple of pictures of the setup and the new colony, enjoy!

I usually update my journals only when there is a significant change. Sometimes it might be just a few days later though.

Yeah, If I don't set a reminder then by the time something happens it will go undocumented.  This way I can think back over the past month and have decent recollection of what needs to be updated.
