I have a 50 worker pogonomyrmex californicus colony. They are currently house in a Byformica Grotube HS. My friend is getting rid of a 20 gallon fish tank and I would like to convert the tank into an outworld for my ants. I would like to add a thick layer of sand and then shine a lamp on it with yellow light that gets a little warm. Will they dig through the sand leave the formicarium?

Yeah, if you keep the sand dry, they won't nest in it.
