Yeah, I know this is Vendayn territory, but for those interested in antagonistic behavior between dominant ant species, new paper about Pheidole megacephala vs RIFA in Florida:

Pheidole megacephala: An invasive ant that raids colonies of the red imported fire ant, Solenopsis invicta

I read it as semi-enjoyable fiction ;-)

But then again, turns out there IS P. megacephala in the area!

Somewhat frightening that there are other invasive ants that are winning against S. invicta out there. Let's just hope they do not adapt and spread into northern zones...

They will nevah evah get in Canada  :iamsohappy:(anytime soon)  It’s too cold for them :cold: , they’ll have to evolve a lot to become cold resistant. Plus the native lasius will give them a hard time. Even though we have all these “defences” it’s still possible that invasive ants get in.

Currently keeping:

1x Formica subsericea, 35-40 workers +  BIG brood pile + 10 pupa

1x Crematogaster cerasi, 2 workers + eggs / larva? (pls don't die workers) *1 is trying to die* (I SAID DON’T DIE)

1x Myrmica ruba sp around 10 workers

*As you watch your ants march, remember that every thing begins with a small step and continued by diligence and shared dreams*

P. militicida is even more cold sensitive than RIFA. Also, I can attest from personal experience that RIFA are  MAGNITUDES more undesirable than P. milticida from being stung (I currently have wounds on my feet from RIFA stings).

Excellent news. Just Tetramorium we have to deal with then for now.
