Location:  Trabuco Canyon, Orange County, California.
Habitat:  Oak forest.
Coloration, hue and pattern:  All black.
Length:  3.5 mm.

I have seen four of these now, and I'm quite sure it's Prenolepis imparis, plus it's January, and nothing else would really be releasing alates now but them. :) I think this means their mating flight should be happening any day now around Southern California.

It's Prenolepis imparis, the Winter Ant, they fly really early in the year.
