Today, one of my classes hosted this sort of weird expo thing, where you can bring in stuff and talk about your hobbies. I decided to make an antkeeping station. I put on a PowerPoint presentation in the background, articles posted about, and to top it off, some S. Invicta workers and pupae (This was a wild colony, and I didn’t want to take their queen, plus I’m pretty sure that it was a satellite nest.) Suprisingly, nobody found the ants creepy or disgusting, and enjoyed watching them and behaviors such as feeding the brood, and trophallaxis. I think getting to see the ants up close changes your opinion on them. You can see they have eyes, a mouth, and legs just like you. They build miniature villages where every ant helps the next. It really helps you “relate” with the ants. I got one person asking me what nest they needed, and where they could find a queen. So it seems we’ll have a new ant keeper in the community soon!

Ants are small creatures... but together... they can rule the world.

Sounds like it went great, congrats!  Having a local friend to talk hobbies with is the best :)
