I don't think S. invicta have been established in Nevada yet, so likely S. xyloni as Reign states. I might be wrong on the establishing thing though.

Is the S.xyloni common? Because we found a small colony of them under basically every other rock, but we couldn't find their queen.

Yeah, my brother got stung by a supermajor when we were getting the queen. But it was on the knee so it didn't hurt very much.

Yes it is not that painful.

Next time avoid collecting from whole colonies, unless you're sure you can get all of them. Since you collected the queen and just a handful of workers, she has a low chance of restarting the colony from almost scratch. They should be fine since you did collect workers, but they might not end up well because they didn't have as many as they used to. Also, the rest of the colony and brood you left behind are pretty much wasted, since they no longer have a queen.

And I'd also recommend you to try moving them into a test tube so that they're easier to observe. You mentioned that the substrate in the container was wood chips in a separate thread; I'd avoid that because it might mold later on.

Yeah, my brother got stung by a supermajor when we were getting the queen.
S. xyloni, and every Solenopsis in Nevada, do not have supermajors.

Solenopsis as a whole genus has two petioles - there is no difference in the number of petioles between any two species of Solenopsis.
