ok, but should I go for plastic or glass?

Because I don't really want to buy the special glass bits for drilling holes in glass.

If you don't want to buy the bits get plastic. But plastic lowers visibility. Buy in the end it is up to you.

I might get one of the aquariums from Petco, but they don't come with a lid. What should I use for a lid? Or do you know of a good aquarium that comes with a lid?

I prefer without the lid. I trust the escape parenting enough.

Ants are small creatures... but together... they can rule the world.
