Does anyone know any good methods for catching queen ants effectively?

Put your vial of catching equipment over the queen, and if it’s a small queen, then hen press it down hard. Then get any card (like a baseball card) and slide it under the queen. It works like a charm, and takes less time than waiting for the queen to climb into your vial or catching equipment. If you don’t have any cards at hand, then your best shot at catching her is putting your vial or catching equipment over the queen, and wait for her to climb onto it (which is much faster for larger species like Formica and Camponotus but very frustrating with smaller species like Brachmyrmex).

You could also pick her up with a piece of cotton then place her into a vail or test tube.
